If elected as Salford Mayor I would end Salford's public transport rip off where Salford residents I believe are being ripped off by Salford's main Bus company First where Salford people are now being asked to pay £4.50 just for a day saver.
Public transport costs in Salford are too high and this is not acceptable. We support free bus travel for our elderly but we believe all bus travel should be free for everyone at the point of delivery. There would be massive savings on our road infrastructure.
As your mayor I would do the following to end Salford's public transport rip off :-
I would immediately open up negotiations with executives of First Buses to make it absolutely clear to them that I believe paying customers are being ripped off. I would make it clear that their prices for journeys in comparison with other bus companies is far too expensive and unnacceptable and demand they they bring their costs down.
I am in no doubt that I would have the support of the city in my endeavours.
If First executives refused to co-operate I would immediately open up negotiations with AGMA and other bus operators with a view to persuading other companies with the Council's full support to provide free/cheaper alternatives to bring the cost of bus travel down in the city.
I would introduce Salford routes where all our cities townships and districts are connected with each other by free and cheap public transport.
First buses were recently fined by the bus regulator for their incompetence and performance where buses were often late and this associated with the cost of bus travel in our city means that First Buses either need to get their act together, bring their costs down or as your Mayor I will do something about it !
