"Repeal the Welfare Reform Act 2012
Responsible department: Department for Work and Pensions
We want Parliament to repeal the Welfare Reform Act of 2012. The Act vindictively targets all benefit claimants disproportionately causing millions of people financial hardship, poverty and at risk of starvation and homelessness.
The Bedroom Tax, the abolition of Disability Living Allowance, changes to Social Fund, ending of Council Tax Benefit, draconian sanctions on those deemed to have not actively sought work and more are all measures that have and will cause severe hardship. The Act, in particularly targets sick and disabled people causing them immense hardship and unnecessary suffering."
The Leader of the Community Action Party Peter Franzen says "This government has set its stall out to unfairly attack benefit claimants by introducing legislation that is outright nasty. The Welfare Reform Act unfairly punishes sick & disabled people. The introduction of Universal Credit means the "working poor" will be worse off."
"The Bedroom Tax means people will not be able to pay their rent and therefore homelessness will increase. The scrapping of Social Fund means families in crisis will struggle to get help."
"The ending of Council Tax Benefit means everyone has to pay some Council Tax. The draconian sanctions on Job Seekers Allowance meaning someone could lose all benefit for 3 years if they are not deemed to have adequately sought work, when we all know there is no jobs."
"This is a vicious and nasty piece of legislation by a nasty and vindictive government."
