Save Disability Living Allowance

The Community Action Party has launched a campaign to save Disability Living Allowance by launching an epetition on HM Government website.

The Community Action Party has launched a campaign to save the Disability Living Allowance benefit paid by the Department for Work & Pensions.

From 2013 onwards central government intend to commence the abolition of Disability Living Allowance (DLA) and replace it with Personal Independence Payments (PIP). The government, it is estimated, have controversially awarded ATOS a contract of around £400 millions to assess all current recipients of DLA to have it replaced with PIP.

The Community Action Party believes the scrapping of DLA to be replaced by PIP will result in significant differences and we believe many people with disabilities and life-long illnesses will be at a significant disadvantage as a result of the changes.

Controversially, all benefit claimants for the new PIP will be medically assessed by ATOS and in view of the incompetence or deliberate denial of benefit entitlement to many on Employment Support Allowance (ESA) where it is estimated about 40% of rejected ESA claims are overturned at appeal, the Community Action Party believe the governments attempts to change the current successful system to a new system is just a deliberate cost-cutting exercise to deny benefits to some of the most vulnerable in society.

The Community Action Party has noted that less than 0.5% of DLA claims are fraudulently claimed and therefore over 99.5% and more legitimately and rightly claim Disability Living Allowance to help with their daily needs in relation to living with illnesses, disabilities which for many are life-long.

Therefore, it is clear to us that the scrapping of DLA for PIP is a system designed to reduce the total expenditure of what is currently paid out, to change the rules so many who now get help will no longer get help, and many who receive help now will find the help they get will be significantly reduced in the future. We also note that those with life-long disability or illness will no longer be entitled to PIP for life and will have to undergo periodical stressful medical tests which all combined, we believe will be a contributory factor in many thousands of people dying. The Community Action Party also believes that anything up to 100,000 people will have their motability vehicles removed as result of the changes.

Michael Moulding, Deputy Leader of the Community Action Party has launched a petition on HM Government epetitions which reads as follows :-

"Stop the Abolition of Disability Living Allowance for Personal Independence Payments

Responsible department: Department for Work and Pensions

The government intends to abolish Disability Living Allowance and replace it with Personal Independence Payments. We feel the government is doing this because it is clear by awarding the contract to assess Personal Independence Payments to ATOS, it is a means to make savage cuts in welfare to the most vulnerable in society. We believe peoples lives will be lost as a result of the scrapping of DLA for Personal Independence Payments assessed by ATOS."

The Community Action Party is pleased to announce that if the petition collects more than 100,000 signatures it may be debated in the House of Commons.

Peter Franzen, Leader of the Community Action Party says "I am delighted that our party has initiated this petition to oppose cuts in welfare to the most disadvantaged in the community. The governments action's hit at the heart of our core values in a detrimental way and everyone must oppose attacks in this way on people who live with disabilities and illnesses."

"What they are proposing is simply a cost-cutting exercise but one, even in hard times we must oppose. We cannot support the most vulnerable in society having to fight for benefits which have had a massive impact in a positive way on the quality of their lives."

Michael Moulding, Deputy Leader of the Community Action Party, who launched the petition says "Everyone needs to fight the governments proposals before its too late and sign the petition to hopefully force the House of Commons to relook at this issue to prevent the unjust and immoral attacks on vulnerable people in our country by the Condem government."

The petition is attached which we hope many thousands will sign in solidarity with those who are going to be affected by the changes :-
