The Community Action Party candidate for Salford Mayor confirms his intentions to attend Mayoral Hustings arranged by the BBC and Salford City Radio but NOT MEN Media.

The Community Action Party candidate for Salford Mayor Michael Moulding confirms his attendance at Mayoral Hustings arranged by the BBC Manchester and Salford City Radio and looks forward to debating Salford's future with his opponents. Mike Moulding reaffirms his commitment NOT to attend Mayoral Hustings arranged by MEN Media which publishes the Manchester Evening News and the Salford Advertiser.

Michael Moulding who campaigned for a YES vote in the recent Mayoral referendum because 2011 was Salford's "Annus Horribilis" in that we had the Salford riots and one of the most henious crimes ever committed on our streets has decided to boycott the Mayoral Hustings by MEN Media in protest at their irresponsible reporting of the Mayoral election in Salford.

Michael Moulding confirms again that his reason for not attending this one Mayoral Husting is because he believes MEN Media are glorifying a convicted criminal which could have the damaging effect of turning this city into a city of further national and international ridicule.

Michael Moulding says "I will not appeal to the criminal elemant in society because we have a zero-tolerance to crime and anti-social behaviour. I would rather lose an election based on a principle that I do not appeal to the criminal elemant in Salford than win one backed up by their votes."

Michael Moulding has already explained that he believes local media has a responsibility to the community they are suppose to serve. Mike believes recent reports including online reports has glorified a specific candidate because of his recent criminal past and whilst he accepts that anyone can stand as a candidate, one's criminal past should not be used by local media to glorify a particular candidate to a hero status in Salford.

Mike says "I am in no doubt that all candidates love Salford. But to my dismay our city has again been dragged into national ridicule because of the criminal past of a particular candidate. A directly-elected Mayor is in effect will be Salford's No 1 citizen. It is absolutely ludicrous to think that one's criminality is a route to being Salford's No 1 citizen."

Mike continues "The Labour supporting MEN Media have glorified one candidate and I have asked myself why have they done this ? Salford is not Manchester and never will be if I have anything to do with it. I do not want Salford to fail. I do not want Salford to be controlled by Manchester. I want Salford to succeed. Why would an alleged responsible local Manchester media glorify by over-exposure one candidate over many candidates who have dedicated their lifetime to public service ?"

The Community Action Party in Salford confirms that Salfordonline as guided on their website do not tolerate BNP racist abuse and we understand because of this Salfordonline have taken the decision not to provide any publicity to this BNP group in Salford even though they have a legal entitlement to submit a Mayoral candidate which they have done. The Community Action Party applauds Salfordonline for taking this responsible route.

Michael Moulding says "Its a pity other media organisations in Salford do not take the same responsible courses of action when reporting on such important matters in our community. It is unforgivable to think that a convicted criminal can be allowed to manage our local government and for these reasons I am making this protest. Its a principle I am happy to defend!" END
