Letter to Manchester Evening News

Dear Editor,

Your article "One-leg dad Not Disabled enough to claim benefits" MEN dated 13th September illustrates the cuts being made by government on people who need support through our benefits system. Tens of thousands of people all over the UK with either partial or full limbs whether arms and/or legs missing receive Disability Living Allowance (DLA) and have received it for years and quite right to.

DLA has been responsible for transforming the lives of hundreds of thousands of people living with disabilities and/or long-term/life-long illness since its introduction. The success of this benefit is one of the few things that has demonstrated the compassion of our country, in that we try to look after the most vulnerable in our society. It is clear the goalposts have been changed by government and is a sign of things to come under the new system of Personal Independence Payments.

Please sign the online petition on HM Government website to stop the abolition of DLA link http://epetitions.direct.gov.uk/petitions/38182 "Stop the Abolition of Disability Living Allowance for Personal Independance Payments" to force Parliament to relook at the matter.

Yours Sincerely
