Letter to Bolton Evening News - 30/11/2012

Dear Editor,
The Community Action Party in Greater Manchester are fundamentally opposed to the governments welfare reform agenda and therefore, we are doing what we can to try and minimise the impact of any forthcoming cuts. We believe the governments plans unfairly penalise those who are living with illness and disability. We believe "The Bedroom Tax" will cause hardship, poverty, suffering and homelessness. The new sanctions now available to DWP for those not deemed to be seeking work, are punitive and draconian and will cause immnse suffering. Families in crisis will no longer get the same help through Crisis Loans or Community Care Grants. Half a million people will lose out as a result of the changes to Disability Living Allowance. The Community Action Party has two petitions on HM Government website which we need people to sign to help us force parliament and government into a rethink. "Stop the Abolition of Disability Living Allowance for Personal Independence Payments" - http://epetitions.direct.gov.uk/petitions/38182 and "Repeal the Welfare Reform Act 2012" - http://epetitions.direct.gov.uk/petitions/41600.
Yours sincerely
Michael Moulding, Deputy Leader, Community Action Party,
